ng mga kababaihan noong ika-19 siglo kumpara sa ika-21 siglo
Ang pagmamaltrato sa kababaihan ay hindi lamang sa Pilipinas nangyari noong ika-19 siglo. Kumpara sa mga kababaihan sa kontemporaryong panahon kung saan itinataguyod ng pagkakapantay-pantay ang katayuan ng babae’t lalaki, ang babae noon ay may katayuang housewife o maybahay. Hindi rin pantay ang oportunidad ng babae kaysa sa lalaki.
Mga kababaihan noong panahon ng Espanyol at Amerikano.
Ani ni Warder, “In civil and political affairs, American women take no interest or concern, except so far as they sympathize with their family and personal friends; but in all cases, in which they do feel a concern, their opinions and feelings have a consideration, equal, or even superior, to that of the other sex. In matters pertaining to the education of their children, in the selection and support of a clergyman, in all benevolent enterprises, and in all questions relating to morals or manners, they have a superior influence.”

Ngayong ika-21 siglo, ang mga papel ng mga kababaihan ay nagbago na rin tulad ng mga pagsulong sa pag-unlad ng lipunan (Joglekar, 2013). Hindi na maybahay ang trato ngunit sila na rin ang mga lider sa mga iba’t ibang larangan: komersyo, industriya, edukasyon, kalusugan, pulitika, agham at teknolohiya, militar, agrikultura, at larong pampalakasan. Lumiliit na ang puna ng lalaki sa babae subalit work in progress pa rin ito sa kasalukuyan bilang isa sa mga patuloy-tuloy na sosyolohikal na isyu.
